Google Foldable Phone on the Cards

Google has filed for a patent application recently and it seems that Google might launch a foldable phone as well. According to news reports Google is experimenting with the similar technology seen in Huawei and Samsung foldable phones i.e. Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The OLED panel construction method is described as it can be bend more than once and can be used in a “modern computing device.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Google does not produce any displays nor does it manufacturers its own handsets. Google usually outsources its manufacturing like Pixel 3 was outsourced to Foxconn.

Similarly, Google Pixel 2 phones were manufactured by HTC and LG. Now this means that if the Google Foldable phone is launched, it would have been outsourced to a third-company to manufacture the foldable screen.

The patent reveals the possibility of a folding device that can bend in two different places that is a Z-fold display.

The thing is that there is no clarity as to why Google would want to manufacture a foldable device. Even the question about the survivability of foldable phones, is debatable?

Also we must mention here that nowhere does the Google’s patent definitely mentions the word ‘phone. However it state how the display can be of use by “modern computing devices.” It can be phone, laptop or a tablet. So at this stage nothing is certain.
