Google Gemini: The Biggest Data Hoarder Among AI Chatbots

Think DeepSeek AI or ChatGPT collect the most user data? Think again.

According to Surfshark, Google Gemini leads the pack, collecting more user data than any other AI chatbot. While ChatGPT ranks sixth and DeepSeek comes in fifth, Gemini is far ahead when it comes to the sheer amount of data it gathers.

What Data Does Google Gemini Collect?

Even if you turn off chat history, Gemini can still collect information like your search history, precise location, and device usage. It doesn’t stop there — Gemini collects an eye-popping 22 types of data, compared to DeepSeek’s 11 and ChatGPT’s 10.

Here’s what Gemini is gathering:

  • Precise location data
  • Name, email address, and phone number
  • User content and contacts
  • Search and browsing history
  • Device usage

While ChatGPT allows temporary chats and data removal requests, and DeepSeek’s data collection is limited to certain areas like chat history, Gemini’s extensive tracking raises major privacy concerns.

How to Protect Your Data From AI Chatbots

AI chatbots are incredibly useful, but they come with privacy risks. Tomas Stamulis, Chief Security Officer at Surfshark, offers this advice:

  • Turn off chat history whenever possible.
  • Review privacy settings on your chatbot platform.
  • Avoid sharing sensitive details with AI chatbots.

By taking these steps, you can reduce the amount of personal data shared with these platforms and safeguard your privacy.
