Google Meet now features speaker separation on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

Since Google introduced its own tensor chips in the Pixel 6 series, the users of this device have enjoyed exclusive features that have been improved by the constant focus of the company on hardware-software integration. Many of these features, one of which is the magic eraser, have made their way up to Android devices. In the latest update, Google is adding another pixel-inspired feature: stereo separation for Google Meet calls.

Google meet gains speaker separation

We speculated about the prospect of a stereo separation feature being in the works for the redesigned Meet app during Google’s contentious merger with Duo in the middle of 2022. About a year later, Google has finally announced speaker separation for Meet conversations, but for the time being, the feature is only available on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

According to Google, the new opt-in feature’s participant audio will be louder in the left channel if they are on your screen’s left side and louder in the right channel if they are on its right side. In meetings, you’ll experience spatial audio, where the noises for the various participants come from places related to where they are displayed on the screen. But we disagree with dynamic head tracking.

Speaker separation tends to make the Meet experience more immersive and natural. To use this feature, you need to activate it in the settings. You need to tap on the three-dot menu button and head to settings. In the setting menu, select Speaker Separation from the Audio menu, and turn it on. It’ll be automatically turned off by default.

This feature is uncontrollable by Meeting administration as it’s only available in the Pixel 7 series. Although this feature isn’t limited in any way by account type,

These features can’t be seen through any means just yet, as they have just started rolling out and could take 15 days to reach all the compatible devices.
