Google Officially Ends Support For Google Pixel 2 Devices

There might be people still using the old Google Pixel 2 device, if you are one of them, it’s time to upgrade, as your handset is no longer supported. This month’s security update is the last one that the handsets are going to get. Google did confirm back in October that the end of support is coming in December, and now we’re here.

If you attempt to check for updates on your Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL, you’ll find a message that says, “Your device will no longer receive regularly scheduled system updates and security updates.” The good news is that the Pixel 2 was at least eligible for Android 11, but the bad news is that starting with next month’s security update, you’ll be in an insecure state.

Both the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL were premium devices that used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset. Unfortunately, being that the Pixel 5 moved from premium to simply high-end, the performance improvement won’t even be that noticeable from the Snapdragon 835 to the Snapdragon 765G. Luckily, you’ll be able to enjoy other new features like camera improvements and 5G connectivity. If you’re looking to stay in the Pixel world, there are even more options than that. There are the budget Pixel 4a and the mid-range Pixel 4a 5G. There’s just no XL model anymore, so if you’re looking for a successor to the Pixel 2 XL, your best bet is the Pixel 4 XL.
