Google Photos Update: Say Goodbye to Clutter from Third-Party Apps

Are you tired of your photo gallery being overrun with Good Morning messages, memes, or other random clutter from third-party apps? Well, you’re in luck—Google Photos just rolled out an update designed to solve that very annoyance.
The app now includes a new feature that lets you filter out unwanted content from third-party apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Gmail, Slack, and more. First spotted during an APK teardown back in May, this handy option is now officially live with version 7.14.0.720276279 of Google Photos.
What’s New?
Before this update, the overflow menu in Google Photos offered grid personalization for organizing similar photos and tweaking grid layouts. Now, it has a powerful new option called “Show content from other apps”. This feature allows you to hide media from external apps, giving you a cleaner and more streamlined viewing experience.
How It Work
Under the “Show content from other apps” setting, you’ll find two major controls:
- Hide Clutter from Other Apps: This toggle automatically removes irrelevant content like screenshots, GIFs, and memes from your photo grid.
- Customize by App: Want even more control? This setting lets you manage content visibility for specific apps. You can choose to hide all media from certain apps, hide only the clutter, or show everything.
Rolling Out Now
The update is rolling out as part of Google Photos version 7.14.0.720276279, so make sure your app is updated to take advantage of these new features.

This update couldn’t come at a better time for those of us overwhelmed by random content flooding our photo galleries. With these new tools, Google Photos is making it easier than ever to keep your gallery organized and clutter-free.
