Google Pixel 9a Rumors: Everything We Know So Far

It looks like the Google Pixel 9a might arrive sooner than expected, based on the leaks and rumors circulating online. The upcoming midrange phone is rumored to bring some exciting upgrades, including a larger 6.3-inch display with an impressive 2,700 nits of peak brightness, an improved rear camera, and a bigger battery with faster charging capabilities. And just a month ahead of its anticipated launch, we’re now getting a closer look at the device, thanks to a new render.

Over the weekend, Evan Blass shared a render of the Pixel 9a on X/Twitter, showcasing the front of the phone. Although the post has since been taken down, 9to5Google managed to grab a copy of the image. From what we can see, the design appears to follow the Pixel 9 series’ aesthetic in many ways. The render shows the power and volume buttons on the right-hand side, along with visible antenna lines, though you might need to zoom in to spot them clearly.

What’s unclear, however, is whether Google will stick with the signature rear camera bar that has been a hallmark of its Pixel devices. Rumors from December suggest the Pixel 9a might ditch the camera bar entirely, which would mark a major shift in Google’s design approach. If this turns out to be true, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how fans respond to the change.

A Familiar Touch with the Wallpaper

One intriguing detail about this render is the wallpaper. It appears to match the ones spotted during a wallpaper leak in October last year, lending some credibility to the image. While leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, this particular detail makes it feel a bit more plausible.

The good news? We won’t have to wait much longer to find out. If rumors are accurate, pre-orders for the Pixel 9a will begin on March 19, 2025, with retail availability starting just a week later on March 26. Based on last year’s Pixel 8a launch, it’s likely that Google will open pre-orders on the same day as the official announcement. So, mark your calendars for March 19!
