Google Rolls Out Adaptive Sound to the Pixel 6 Series

Google is rolling out a new update to its latest series, the Pixel 6. The big thing about this update is a new feature, namely Adaptive Sound (though it isn’t entirely a new concept). As the name sounds, the device with this feature will automatically adjust the sound based on its surroundings. The function detects noise using the device’s microphone and then adjusts accordingly.

Google is silently rolling out this push notification to the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro. It’s good if you have received this notification, else you may manually check for the update by following the usual steps:

Settings > Software update > Download and install

The changelog for this update says:

Adaptive Sound improves sound quality from your phone speaker. It uses the microphone to assess the acoustics near you, then adjusts the sound equalizer settings for your environment.

Adaptive sound may be noticeable at higher volumes. All microphone audio is deleted shortly after it’s recorded. It’s processed locally and never leaves your device. Audio and background conversation are never sent to Google.

The statement clarifies that privacy is important to Google and unlike previous reports, this feature will not use the sound quietly.
