Google Teases Pixel 10 Pro Fold: First Foldable With IP68 Dust Resistance and Tensor G5

The new Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is shown for the first time in an official teaser video. With tensor G5 chip, 16 GB RAM and a special property, Google Samsung could be dangerous.
First official video of the foldables
Google continues its teaser campaign for the Pixel 10 series and now gives an official view of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold for the first time. The 30-second video shows the foldable smartphone in the new moonstone color and plays with the concept of double “opening”-once when unpacking and once when the device is unfolded.
The video again uses the instrumental track from Dr. Dres “The Next Episode” as a soundtrack, but this time does not use direct swipes against Apple. Instead, Google focuses on the unique property of its foldable: “When it comes to technology, there are few feelings that are as good as opening your brand new phone. Except for, of course, opening your brand new phone and then opening your brand new phone”.

Breakthrough in dust resistance
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be the first dust-resistant folding cell phone on the market, with an IP68 certification. While the Pixel 9 Pro Fold does not offer dust protection, the improvement would be an important progress. The IP68 certification means complete protection against dust and watertightness with permanent immersion up to 1.5 meters depth.
So far, foldable manufacturers have failed due to dust resistance, since the moving parts and the flexible display represent special challenges. For example, Samsung only offers IP48 protection in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 – waterproof, but not entirely dust -resistant. If Google solves this problem, that would be a significant competitive advantage.
Performance and memory equipment
The new tensor G5 chip works under the hood, coupled with 16 GB RAM and up to a TB memory. The tensor is made for the first time in a four-nanometer process at TSMC, which promises significant improvements in energy efficiency and performance. Google’s previous chips were produced at Samsung and were considered less efficient than the competition.
The 16 GB RAM represent a doubling compared to Pixel 9 Pro Fold and should offer advantages in particular for AI applications and multitasking scenarios. The 1-TB storage variant is also aimed at Power users who want to save large quantities of photos, videos and apps.

Display and camera improvements
Rumors speak of a larger cover display with 6.4 inch diagonals next to the eight-inch main screen. The cover display grows by 0.3 inches compared to the predecessor and is intended to make use of the folded state more comfortable.
Improvements are also planned for the camera, possibly with a 48 megapixel ultra-angle lens and a telelinse with a five-fold optical zoom. That would be a significant increase compared to the triple zoom of the current model. The battery should also be larger with 5015 mAh and thus improve the term.
Prices and market positioning
The new 1 TB variant of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to cost 2289 euros in Germany and thus Google’s most expensive smartphone. The basic equipment remains at the level of the predecessor. Google will present the complete pixel 10 series on August 20 at its “Made by Google” event. However, reports indicate that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may only be on the market in October, together with the Pixel Watch 4.
