Google Unveils Pixel 7 Teaser At Google I/O

The Google Pixel 6a is official and coming in July. The company presented its latest smartphone at Google I/O. As you might expect, the device is smaller and cheaper than the Pixel 6, but inherits the Tensor chip. And then there was another surprise: photos of the Pixel 7.

Pixel 6a Efficient on display, storage, and cameras

The Pixel 6a was no longer a big surprise and brought everything that could be expected to the Google I/O stage. Google takes the design of the large device brothers Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro completely but makes the newcomer much more compact. Also taken over by the family: With a price of $ 499 you also immediately take over the price tag of the Pixel 5A. In the US, pre-orders start on July 28, in Europe, it starts from 459 euros “from this summer”. A little disappointing: Android 13 doesn’t make it to the launch on the device, it comes with Android 12.

Also inside, the new pixel is characterized by well-known hardware. Google also uses the Tensor SoC used in the 6 and 6 Pro. This is the first time a “uniform hardware system has been developed that we can scale across the entire pixel portfolio.” One of the benefits: Google wants to provide security updates for five years. But there are cutbacks in the working memory, which shrinks from 8 to 6 GB. Speaking of memory: 128 GB of RAM is standard, there are no other options. At 4410mAh, the battery is almost comparable to the Pixel 6, which offers 4610 mAh.

Google saves further with the camera system. The Pixel 6 offers a 50MP wide-angle and 12MP ultra-wide angle, which are complemented by 48MP telephoto in the Pro model, but you’ll have to be satisfied with the Pixel 6a with 12.2MP wide-angle and 12MP ultra-wide angle. The laser autofocus is also removed and “Dual Pixel Phase Detection” works in the 6a. The front camera, on the other hand, is taken from the Pixel 6 and offers 8 MP here too. Last stop for red pencils: is the display. The Pixel 6a has an FHD+ OLED panel with a refresh rate of 60 Hz – the big brothers here have 90 or 120 Hz, combined with an even better resolution in the Pro.

Surprise: Pixel 7 to see

And then there was another real surprise on the I/O stage: the Google Pixel 7 was expected to be released this fall. However, the developers wanted to anticipate the usual leaks and have already shown the design of the devices. You see: the entire camera bar and crop frame are made of aluminum. The “next generation of the tensor chip” should also do its job within, which can then also control Android 13 from launch. There is no more information at the moment.
