Google Wallet will now let you share passes

Following the updates from 2022, Google Wallet has provided us with manageable ways to organize all our important passes and cards. These updates have proven to be a replacement for Google Pay in some regions. With the upcoming update, users will be able to make payments using QR codes through Google Wallet without any additional requirements for NFC capabilities. It’s quite like the way in which the Google Pay app is currently functioning in India. Currently, the app is almost ready to add another useful function that will allow users to share passes held in Wallet with their friends and family.

This seems to be a component of the July 2023 Google System Updates. The official support material outlining the modifications, however, appears to have been edited to eliminate all references to pass sharing. However, The Verge’s investigation turned up a Google Wallet support page that, towards the end of the page, refers to pass sharing.

According to Google, passes that can be shared will have the well-known Share icon next to them. Passes sent in this way, however, cannot be revoked, and the recipients are free to distribute them as they see fit. Users of Wallet are urged to use caution while distributing passes on Wallet, considering this.

In a statement to The Verge, a Google spokeswoman acknowledged the discovery and stated that the company is working on allowing users to share “select passes.” Although pass-sharing is a good addition, Apple’s alternative, Apple Wallet, has supported it for quite some time.

It’s also interesting to note that the Google System Updates list for July 2023 includes a mention of Device Connectivity capability for Wear OS. According to 9to5Google, this could be a reference to the long-awaited ability to sync Bedtime Mode and Do Not Disturb on a Pixel Watch with a compatible Android smartphone. Along with the ability to easily access new deals on popular games from the Play Store home screen, a few bug improvements are also included.
