Google’s Waymo launches first self-driving taxi service

Google’s subsidiary Waymo has launched its first driverless taxi service after years of research and development. The CEO of the company said it in a blog post.

Alphabet Inc’s spinoff Waymo has successfully completed it’s a decade-long research and development on driverless cars and came up with new taxi service which has no driver in it, the taxi service is driverless somewhat similar to what you might have seen in Black Mirror’s episode “Hang the DJ”.

Waymo CEO John Krafcik wrote, “We have been focused on developing the world’s most experienced driver”.

By the statement it sounds so safe and amicably comfortable service, however, people still have to rate it after they get a ride drove by the “experienced driver”.

The members of Waymo autonomous taxi programme would be offered taxi service in Phoenix and Arizona. The users would be able to book rides in Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert 24 hours a day, 7 days a week precisely.

The company has named the new taxi service “Waymo One”. The company also plans to offer driverless taxi service to more users and even more places.

The cars in the fleet are fully automated and driverless, however; Waymo has assigned human drivers to the vehicles to supervise the cars initially. It is also pertinent to mention that riders who are able to use the taxi service are the same ones who became the part of the early testing programme.

The riders would also be able to bring in friends and family while they book the rides and would be able to share their experiences publicly.
