Hackers Threaten AMD And Intel To Leak Internal Documents

At the end of last week, it was announced that motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte had been the victim of a ransomware attack. The RansomEXX group apparently did not interfere with the production but tapped numerous internal data.

The Taiwanese company is one of the largest PC hardware and component manufacturers and was at least lucky in that the daily production business was not or is not affected by the ransomware attack. For Gigabyte, however, the matter is extremely uncomfortable, because you are still being blackmailed by the RansomEXX hackers.

Specifically, The Record reports quoting Kotaku that the attackers are currently threatening the company to publish 112 gigabytes of stolen business data on the dark web if the Taiwanese manufacturer does not comply with the demands. It is not known what these are or how high the required amount is. The data leaked or tapped in the course of the attack apparently includes internal reports and information from AMD, Intel, and American Megatrends.

Confidential documents

As proof, screenshots of several documents were attached, which The Record got leaked. It is not known what information these documents contain. It does say, however, that many are provided with an NDA – a non-disclosure agreement, i.e. a confidentiality agreement – and accordingly confidential information can be found in it.

Nowadays an NDA is already pronounced for small things, but it is conceivable that documents of a sensitive nature are also included. Incidentally, Gigabyte is another victim of a number of recent attacks on Taiwanese tech companies, most recently there were similar attacks on Acer, AdvanTech, Compal, Quanta, and Garmin.
