Half Life 2 RTX: Details on the graphics improvements in the new video

Half-Life 2 RTX is currently in development, a version of the cult shooter that has been revised, especially in terms of graphics. However, this is not being developed by Valve; instead, a group of modders is taking on the project. They have now released another trailer for the project together with Nvidia.

Better light and shadow effects

The setting of the new video is the high-security prison Nova Prospekt, which Half-Life 2 players will remember fondly. Thanks to the new graphics technologies, the setting now looks much more realistic. For example, full ray tracing ensures an improved representation of light and shadow, and details such as reflections on the mesh of a chain-link fence now appear much more stable and calm thanks to DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction.

Half-Life 2 RTX also uses Nvidia Reflex to reduce rendering times and RTX IO to shorten the loading time between different sections of the game world. The video also shows what the revised versions of Gordon Freeman’s revolver, shotgun and pulse rifle look like, as well as the new models of the Combine soldiers and alien ant lions.

Project continues without deadline

Half-Life 2 RTX was officially announced almost exactly a year ago, but a release date or even a rough time frame for the release is not yet known. Talented and motivated modders can continue to apply on the Project website report and participate in the development.
