Historic Facebook Campaign Aims to Register 4 Million US Voters

Facebook wants to improve the resources it provides the American voters. It wants to help people to register to vote ahead of the 2020 US elections. This is as per a new op-ed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

According to Zuckerberg, the target of Facebook is to help 4 million people register to vote this year an increase from 2 million four years ago. This would be made possible via the resources given across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

Furthermore, Facebook will launch a new “Voting Information Center” which has its resemblance in its design to its COVID-19 hub.

Zuckerberg wrote, “The 2020 election is going to be unlike any other. It was already going to be a heated campaign, and that was before the pandemic — and before the killing of George Floyd and so many others forced us yet again to confront the painful reality of systemic racism in America. People want accountability, and in a democracy, the ultimate way we do that is through voting.”

Adding, “With so much of our discourse taking place online, I believe platforms like Facebook can play a positive role in this election by helping Americans use their voice where it matters most — by voting.”

Zuckerberg claims that the efforts of Facebook can constitute the“largest voting information campaign in American history.”   

Following the failures of Facebook during the 2016 US presidential election, this step has been taken to protect the platform and face the criticism by taking constructive steps.
