Hitway BK6S: Foldable e-bike for only 800 euros in the test

The Hitway BK6S is a foldable e-bike. The bike has a 250 watt motor. This is located in the rear wheel and has a 32 Newton meter torque sensor. Hitway has installed a 7-speed gear system in the BK6S, which shifts up and down without any problems. Even on longer journeys, the chain does not start to jump. The front fork of the BK6S has adjustable suspension. In practice, it turns out that the BK6S, together with the 3-inch wide tires, is also suitable for forest paths. Hitway uses two mechanical disc brakes. The manufacturer specifies the maximum load as 120 kilograms. The BK6S is available in black, red, blue and silver. Our colleague Timm Mohn ‘s bike is blue.

There is a lock on the battery to start the BK6S. The current battery level can then be viewed on the top. This is also possible on the display on the handlebars. This includes an odometer, a display for the current speed and the assistance level. Hitway does not have an app connection and focuses on good readability of the display. The BK6S offers three support levels. With support level 1, the e-bike can reach 15 km/h. If you increase the support, the BK6S travels at up to 20 km/h. The third support level accelerates to 25 km/h.

Range up to 35 kilometers

The manufacturer gives a fairly variable range. The possible range is basically determined by the riding style, the support level and the weather. The road conditions in urban areas also influence the actual range. In practice, the 12 amp-hour battery is enough for a trip around the globe one place and back. The BK6S manages 22 kilometers at full power without the support level having to be reduced. However, the battery should be fully charged before the next trip to avoid a completely empty battery. Lighter people could go further than 35 kilometers.

The Hitway BK6S is a low step-through bike, which is good for smaller users. The playful, curved frame contrasts with the quite thick tires. The latter benefit the riding experience: bumps in the road are less noticeable in combination with the suspended front fork. The technical data allows a comparison to the Urtopia Carbon 1 . However, the chain on the BK6S allows you to get more out of the motor, so that the folding bike is faster than the competition despite having slightly fewer Newton meters.

It would be desirable if a possible successor would dispense with the need to insert the key into the battery in order to start it. At the same time, this is a security feature: even if someone steals the bike and buys a power supply, he or she cannot switch on the battery without the key. The next escalation level would be the thief replacing the battery – but this is also only possible using the key. The Hitway BK6S is currently available from the manufacturer for 799 euros . A third-party seller is offering the bike on Amazon for the same price .
