Honor teases futuristic “Robot Phone” with AI-powered gimbal camera

The former Huawei subsidiary Honor wants to offer its “robot phone” from next year, a smartphone in which a camera gimbal with a fold-out, motorized arm is integrated. Thanks to AI, it should even be able to interact with the user.

Last week, after a teaser, Honor also released a video in which its “robot phone” supposedly planned for next year can be seen. From the front, the device looks like a normal, current upper-class smartphone with Android, but on the back the manufacturer has integrated a camera attached to a fold-out gimbal arm.

The camera on her gimbal sits behind a sliding cover that appears to be motorized like the robot camera arm. If you activate the gimbal, the cover moves to the side and the camera unfolds. In addition to optimal image stabilization when taking photos and videos, Honor apparently also wants to offer various other features that use the motors in the gimbal.

The manufacturer’s teaser video also shows how the smartphone or camera gimbal can react to the user’s activities in front of the camera with various movements. However, it remains to be seen to what extent these interactions can actually be helpful in everyday life or even be transferred from a pure concept into reality, as it is still supposed to be a pure prototype.

Sources from Honor’s environment provided by the Finnish leaker Teme X/Twitter quoted, assume that the prototype for the “Robot Phone” is already 80 percent finished. The final version of the device could therefore be introduced in summer or autumn 2026, it is said. Visually, Honor’s “Robot Phone” is very reminiscent of the new iPhone 17 Pro models, because the Chinese manufacturer also partially adapts Apple’s design language.
