Honor’s Big Shift: From Smartphones to an AI Device Ecosystem

Chinese tech company Honor is expanding its vision beyond smartphones, and it makes more sense than you might think.

Under the leadership of CEO James Li, the company wants to evolve from a smartphone manufacturer into “a global leading AI device ecosystem company” over the next few years. This shift is part of their ambitious ‘Alpha Plan,’ which still positions smartphones as a key element of their strategy.

The company’s first major step? Creating “an intelligent phone that will revolutionize human-to-device interaction and bridge the AI ecosystem with consumers.” Clearly, smartphones are still central to Honor’s plans.

However, the company isn’t stopping there. Beyond phones, Honor aims to redefine the user experience across PCs, tablets, wearables, and more—using the power of AI. What exactly this will mean for everyday users isn’t fully clear yet, but it’s definitely a step toward making devices smarter and more interconnected.

One exciting development is Honor’s AI Connect—a feature that promises seamless file-sharing between iOS and Android devices, something that’s often a pain point for users. Honor describes AI Connect as “the world’s first all-ecosystem file-sharing technology,” and it won’t be limited to Honor’s own devices.

Collaboration is also a key aspect of Honor’s Alpha Plan. The company is working with major industry players like Apple, Google, and Qualcomm. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets already power many Honor devices, so this partnership is set to grow even stronger.

As for immediate updates, Honor is bringing three new features to its current lineup. AI Deepfake detection is rolling out to its latest flagship phones, while the Magic 7 Pro will receive a new ‘AIMAGE’ AI photo upscaling feature. Additionally, starting with the Magic 7 Pro, all Honor flagship and foldable devices will come with seven years of OS and security updates—putting them on par with promises from Samsung and Google.

Honor’s evolution from a smartphone brand to an AI ecosystem leader might seem like a big leap, but with these bold moves, the company seems ready to transform how users interact with their devices in the years to come.
