If you’re not a fan of Microsoft Edge, you’ve probably searched for ways to get rid of it. Interestingly, if you use a search engine to look up how to remove the browser, one of the top results will be an official Microsoft webpage. The problem? Instead of providing instructions, the page offers a not-so-subtle pitch for why you should keep using Edge.
As highlighted by PC World, searching “How to uninstall Microsoft Edge” on Bing brings up a Microsoft link with this promising headline:
How to Uninstall Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Edge
Learn how to uninstall Microsoft Edge from your device, but be aware of the features and benefits you will lose. Compare Microsoft Edge with other browsers and see why it is the smarter choice.
When you click the link, though, it takes you to a Microsoft page that highlights Edge’s features, like its AI capabilities and integration with Windows. But there’s nothing—absolutely nothing—about uninstalling the browser, making it feel like a classic bait-and-switch.
I also tried searching on Google, which yielded a different teaser:
Uninstall Microsoft Edge
Trying to uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 10, Windows 11, or other systems? Discover the features and functionalities you’ll miss without it.
No matter which link you click, it leads to the same Microsoft promo page. And again, there’s no real guidance on how to get rid of Edge.
If you’re serious about uninstalling Microsoft Edge, don’t waste your time with Microsoft’s unhelpful page. Instead, check out our guide on how to uninstall Microsoft Edge. We promise it actually helps—and doesn’t just try to sell you on the browser.
With the right steps, removing Edge is totally doable. But clearly, Microsoft isn’t making it easy.
