How to factory reset the Amazon Echo Dot

How to factory reset your Amazon Echo Dot

There are two different methods to factory reset your Amazon Echo Dot. On the one hand, you can via the Alexa app installed on your mobile phone or tablet. Secondly, through the physical buttons themselves that has the smart speaker.

With the Alexa app

The first thing you need to do to set up your Echo Dot is open the Alexa app on your mobile. This will allow you to control which devices are paired with the smart speaker, change its language and, among other options, also proceed to factory reset. If you have the 4th generation Echo Dot you must press the “Action” button for about 25 secondsuntil the lower ring turns Orange. Afterward, you can either set it up again or simply turn it off for someone else to give it a new lease of life. This is the “Action” button on the 4th gen Echo Dot. In case you want to reset the 3rd generation Echo Dot, you will also have to press for about 25 seconds the “Action” button. You can easily recognize it because it is the button has a dot. Like the newer model, its ring will light up orange and it will begin to reset. This is the “Action” button on the 3rd generation Echo Dot.

The buttons you need to press to reset the 2nd generation Echo Dot change because in this model it is the volume down button and microphone mute button. If you press those two buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, you will see the orange color appear that indicates that the process to erase all your data is beginning. Press the microphone button and the volume down button to reset the 2nd generation Echo Dot. Finally, we have the 1st generation Echo Dot which has a specific button to reset it at the bottom.

Press that button for a few seconds and you will see how the orange light turns on, indicating that the data restoration process is beginning. As we have seen, factory resetting your Echo Dot is a very simple process that you can perform through the Alexa app or with its own physical buttons. It is a useful method for fixing some problems, reconfiguring the device from the beginning to change some settings that you did not like, or in those situations in which the Echo Dot will no longer be yours.
