Huawei has officially made the announcement of its new operating system HarmonyOS. It is rumored that Huawei is developing this operating system to replace the dependence on Android.
The software will be called Hongmeng in China. This OS can be utilized in everything be it smartphones, smart speakers, wearables, and in-vehicle systems. This will create a shared ecosystem across devices. In order to encourage adoption, this OS will be launched as an open-source platform globally.
Ever since Google suspended Huawei’s Android license, there have been speculations regarding Huawei’s own operating system. Huawei has been open about its work on developing its own OS.
Now Huawei is planning to launch HarmonyOS on “smart screen products” by the end of 2019. Then it will expand its work on other devices including wearables. Initially, the focus will be in China and then Huawei will expand its wings in other markets.
