Huawei Mate 40E To Come With Kirin 990E Chip: Confirmed

In October 2020, Huawei officially released the Mate 40 series family, including Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 RS. But entering 2021, there is news that Huawei’s Mate 40 series has a new member: Huawei Mate 40E.

On March 8, a model named Huawei Mate 40E suddenly appeared on Huawei’s Tmall flagship store in China. Although the page has been taken offline, the previous rumours have been confirmed with this activity.

A blogger posted that Huawei Mate 40E was originally scheduled to be equipped with a 5000-pixel IMX700 as the main camera, but now due to component shortages, it will be replaced with a 64-megapixel sensor. In fact, this new Mate 40E has passed the wireless charging certification not long ago, and some configuration information has been exposed.

Certification information shows that Mate 40E will use a 6.5-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2376×1080. In addition, its processor frequency is 2.86GHz, based on this speculation may be Kirin 990E chip.

The Kirin 990E chip was previously launched on Huawei Mate 30E Pro 5G mobile phones, using the world’s leading 7nm+ EUV process at the time, and integrated 5G baseband. At the same time, this is also the first flagship SoC with a Da Vinci architecture NPU, with very strong overall performance.

On the whole, the specifications of Kirin 990E and Kirin 990 are not much different. The CPU and baseband parts have not been adjusted, mainly due to minor changes in GPU and NPU.

Specifically, the GPU of the Kirin 990 5G chip is a 16-core Mali-G76, while the NPU is a dual-core + micro-core design. In contrast, the GPU of the Kirin 990E 5G chip has two cores less, which is a 14-core Mali- G76, NPU is a dual-core Da Vinci architecture with a large core+micro core.

In addition to the processor and the main camera sensor, the other configurations of the Huawei Mate 40E are not much different from those of the Mate 40. In addition, the two have also maintained the same appearance, the same is the front surface design of digging holes, and the back of the starring camera module design. Therefore, for those users who like the design of the Mate 40 series, Huawei Mate 40E is also a good choice.

In terms of price, Huawei Mate 40 is currently priced at 4,999 yuan roughly $768, and Mate 40E with a slightly lower processor specification should be more affordable and worth looking forward to.
