Recently, Huawei debuted the Huawei Mate 60 series, and now the company has announced the foldable Mate X5. Similar to the Mate 60 Pro, the Mate X5 comes with a Kirin 9000s chip. Reportedly, it is the same processor that is used in the Huawei Mate 60 Pro.
Before delving deep into the discussion about the features of the Mate X5, let us clarify why this foldable is named Mate X5 and not Mate X4 since the company debuted the Mate X3 back in April. Well, the number 4 is considered unlucky by the Chinese population. For this reason, Huawei has skipped it. Interestingly, Huawei is not the only company in China to do so.
The design of the Mate X5 is similar to that of the Mate X3. The Mate X5 has a slightly different camera island. Each of the two displays has a display camera hole. It might arrive with both eco-leather and ‘Feather Sand’ backplates. The main display is a 7.85-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 2496 x 2224 resolution, and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
In contrast, the external display is a 6.4-inch panel with a resolution of 2504 x 1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. It has support for 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. The device is powered by the Kirin 9000s SoC. It is available in two different RAM options, i.e., the 12GB RAM model offers 52GB of storage, and the 16GB RAM model offers 512GB and 1TB storage options. Furthermore, the storage is expandable.
The camera island comprises a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera. Each display features an 8MP camera.
The Mate X5 accompanies a 5,060mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The device is IPX3-certified for water resistance. Moreover, the Mate X5 features support for 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, two-way Beidou satellite SMS, and USB 3.1. It comes with HarmonyOS 4 out of the box The device measures 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.08mm in the folded state and 156.9 x 141.5 x 5.3mm in the unfolded state. The weight of the vegan leather model is 243 grams, while the ‘Feather Sand’ model weighs 245 grams.
Mate X5 is available in five different colors, i.e., Feather Black, Feather Gold, Feather White, Green Mountain Dai, and Phantom Purple. There is no information yet about the price of the phone. The company will debut the Huawei Mate 60 series in the international market, and the same could be the case for the Mate X5.
