Huawei no longer gets Windows, shows the first Harmonyos laptop

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei has presented a notebook for the first time, in which instead of Windows you are now placing on your own operating system in the form of Harmony OS 5. Huawei is no longer allowed to purchase Windows licenses due to the US embargo.

Huawei laced Chinese software package for PCs

The persistent sanctions of the United States make life difficult for the Chinese electronic giant Huawei with a view to his PC business. Because Microsoft can no longer sell licenses and support services for his Windows and other products to Huawei, you have now created an alternative to Windows, Office & Co. Huaweis software package for the previously nameless new notebook, according to a report of the South China Morning Post Software developed in China. The basis forms Harmonyos, i.e. a kind of Linux operating system that Huawei has given its own coat of paint.

Among other things, the equipment includes a AI assistant called “Celia”, which should be able to generate presentations, create summaries for meetings or to call up information from locally stored documents. However, it is not yet known how well the whole thing works, since all previously known information is based on information from the manufacturer.

WPS Office & Team alternative from Alibaba

The so-called Harmonyos 5, which is also known as Harmonyos Next, is said to offer a number of AI features. WPS Office is used here as an alternative to Microsoft Office and the Alibaba team alternative is used. It is still unclear which processor platform Huawei uses the new Harmonyos laptop.

Microsoft has no longer delivered new Windows licenses to Huawei since March 2025, after it was still possible to offer the company even further to the end of the U.S. sanctions to offer a number of notebooks and PCs based on Intel and AMD chips with Windows.

Harmonyos is quite popular in China, since the mobile variant has been used for some time as a Huaweis replacement for the Android from Google, which is also no longer available for the group. Most recently, Huawei was able to achieve a market share of 19 percent with his smartphones based on Harmonyos, and was therefore even 17 percent in the last quarter.
