Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin Chips are one of the best available on the market today. According to Android Passmark rating, Huawei’s Kirin chips are one of the best performing CPUs along with other chips such as Samsung’s Exynos and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon.
However, Qualcomm is the leader in chip business in the market because it sells to almost every smartphone maker and it has a range of smartphone chips to power up any kind of device. The US companies provide high-quality chips while Taiwanese manufacturer offers relatively cheaper ones.
But there are some exceptions like Samsung’s Exynos line, Huawei’s Kirin line, and Xiaomi’s newly developed Surge line. The companies only design and manufacture chips to power up their own smartphones.
Many experts started thinking in order to grow, Huawei might start selling their chips to other smartphone makers, clearing that point Huawei has announced today that it has no plans to sell its SoCs to other vendors.
Earlier it was also reported that Samsung has plans to expand the production of its Exynos line, also find buyers for their Exynos chips. It was also reported that Xiaomi’s Surge chips will appear in Nokia smartphones later this year or early next year.
But Huawei has no plans yet to sell its Kirin SoCs it was revealed at the global analyst conference in Shenzhen. The acting Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Investment and Holding Co., Zhijun Xu said during the meeting that “Huawei has no plans to sell Kirin chips at the moment”. The chips are specifically and exclusively made for Huawei devices in order to differentiate their performance from other and bring low-cost benefits, he added.
Huawei’s current strategy is to utilize different chips in different handsets in order to come up with different prices and different consumer demands by using different models powered by Qualcomm, MediaTek and Kirin Chips, he said. He further said Huawei’s R&D expenses during 2017 were around 89.7 billion ($14.27 billion), Yuan. During the past 10 years, R&D expenses exceeded 394 billion Yuan ($61.11 billion). Huawei will continue to pour funds roughly 15% of its revenues into R&D in order to stay competitive in the industry, he added.
