Hugo Barra to Lead Facebook’s Virtual Reality Business

Jan 26 – Early today, Mark Zuckerberg disclosed the refreshing news that Hugo Barra soon will be heading Facebook’s virtual reality business, including Oculus unit.

Hugo Barra announced his resignation as global vice president at Xiaomi three days earlier and today he shared the news that he will be joining Facebook as the vice president of Facebook’s virtual reality division.

Virtual Reality to Reshape the Future.

In a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg announced: “I’m excited that Hugo Barra is joining Facebook to lead all of our virtual reality efforts, including our Oculus team.”

Zuckerberg and Barra, both shares the same belief that the virtual and augmented reality is the future. These technologies will result in a better creative and unique experience for the users, and Barra with his amazing talent will help this dream come true.

The 40-year Brazilian computer scientist shared a Tweet showing his excitement to join Facebook’s virtual reality business. However, Barra will stay as the VP of Xiaomi till the Chinese New Year and then will take some time off before heading back to Silicon Valley.

“My friends, what I consider to be my home, and my life are back in Silicon Valley, which is also much closer to my family. Seeing how much I’ve left behind these past few years, it is clear to me that the time has come to return” Barra said in an interview.

Barra’s exit from Xiaomi comes at the time when the company is losing its spot. The once number one company in China is now facing troubles to compete with its rivals. The company is also struggling with some business challenges and it has been a tough time introducing the company in countries other than India.
