Image editing with text input is possible with Apple’s new AI model

The number of AI tools is increasing with every passing day. Tech companies like Google, Apple, Samsung, and others are working on different aspects of generative AI. One such recent example comes from Apple. Reportedly, the company has released MLLM-Guided Image Editing (MGIE). It is an open-source AI-model that can edit images based on text prompts.

With the help of MGIE, users can make major as well as minor changes to the images. Let’s say for example, that a user wishes to edit an image of a pizza with the addition of certain elements that will make the pizza appear healthier. The user gives a text prompt to add vegetables and herbs to the image. In the other round, a user can ask the AI tool to resize, crop, or rotate images. Furthermore, the AI tool can adjust the brightness, contrast, and color balance of the images.

The new AI tool by Apple can be used by all users. It can be accessed on Hugging Face Spaces. The new AI tool is developed in partnership with the University of California. The AI tool utilizes multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to understand the instructions provided by users.

Right now, there is no information on whether this tool will make its way to any of the Apple products or not. When it comes to AI in the company’s products, Apple is far behind its competitors, like Google and Samsung. However, Tim Cook recently revealed that his company will be heavily investing in AI in the future.
