In spite of efforts to avoid layoffs, Apple will remove positions in its corporate retail team

Over the past few months, we have come across news about tech companies going for major layoffs. However, Apple was one company that has not laid off a huge number of its workers despite the poor economic situation. Despite these efforts, in 2023 the company laid off hundreds of contractors. After all this, now the company is going to eliminate some roles from its corporate retail teams.

A report by Bloomberg indicates that the firm is going to cut job postings from the “development and preservation teams.” These teams are in charge of constructing Apple Retail Stores and other facilities used by the company all around the world. The report indicates that the number of eliminated roles is quite small. However, it is still an indication that even Apple is not resistant to the shrinking global economy.

Apple has presented the job losses internally as a “streamlining exercise” as opposed to layoffs. Employees were informed that Apple would support those affected by the changes and that they should “enhance upkeep of stores internationally.” Furthermore, the reports suggest that laid-off employees are given a chance to reapply for other jobs at Apple. In case, the employees who don’t succeed at securing a job at the firm will be compensated with four months of pay. The company has even eliminated some of its management positions.

The only reason that helped Apple escape massive layoffs is avoiding unnecessary hires until or unless it was extremely required. The company unveiled that it would hire employees but at a slower rate owing to the present economic conditions. Of course, it’s difficult to say how much longer Apple will be able to manage without mass layoffs at this point. The business had 164,000 employees during the most recent fiscal quarter.
