In the latest Chrome update release, Google modifies the Memory Saver and tab group features

Google Chrome is getting the latest security and performance features. The most recent version of the web browser (M12) adds the option to preserve tab groups, along with improvements to Safety Check and Memory Saver.

Chrome’s security center, Safety Check, shows whether Safe Browsing is enabled and looks for updates and compromised passwords. The most recent version of the browser makes Safety Check more proactive by having it run automatically in the background. Chrome Group Product Manager Sabine Borsay stated in an announcement post that “you’ll get proactively alerted if passwords saved in Chrome have been compromised, any of your extensions are potentially harmful, you’re not using the latest version of Chrome, or site permissions need your attention.” Alerts will appear at the top of Chrome’s three-dot menu thanks to this functionality.

If you haven’t visited a website for a while, Safety Check can now also remove rights to access features like the microphone, camera, and location. Furthermore, it indicates when infrequently used websites bombard you with alerts, advising you to disable them.

Introduced in 2022 and made available to all users early this year, Memory Saver mode frees up RAM from open tabs that aren’t being used. In Memory Saver mode, the tool provides more information on the usage of the active tab when you hover over one. This covers the possible amount of memory that you could save.

Additionally, according to Google, it’s now simpler to choose which websites you want Memory Saver to always be open. You may examine the new settings in Chrome’s Performance section after the update has been installed.

Eventually, tab groups will be able to be saved in Chrome. Let’s say, for instance, that you have 25 tabs open on a project, but you need to go on to something else. With saved tab groups, you can name them appropriately, end them, and then resume where you left off. Chrome’s speed and security updates, according to Google, will be released this week. Saved tab groups, on the other hand, will debut “over the next few weeks.“
