Instagram Cofounders quit Facebook to try something new

Facebook’s photo-sharing app Instagram’s co-founders CEO Kevin Systrom and CTO Mike Krieger have reportedly resigned their jobs at Instagram.

Both the co-founders of Instagram have planned to leave the company in the coming weeks, according to New York Times, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mike Krieger have informed their company about their decision to leave on Monday.

The CEO also confirmed the resignations in a blog post, on Monday; they said they are now ready for the next chapter.

“We are actually planning to take some time off in order to rebuild our curiosity and creativity, building new things requires all that, we need to take a break, sit back and watch carefully what inspires us and match that with what people need, and that is what we are planning to do.”

The decision comes after social media has been under immense criticism for not controlling the activities that are harmful in a social standing. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have been blamed for fake news, hate speech, inappropriate content and political interference.

The photo-sharing app was founded back in 2010 by Stanford University graduates Systrom and Krieger, the company has grown from photo sharing service to a popular photo app which is used by over a billion people each month since then.

Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion 6 years ago, Facebook took the photo-sharing app to the next level by integrating more features people love from video chats, shopping to the payment system, however, it has been criticized for copying features from another famous app Snapchat.

Facebook representatives were not immediately available for the comment, what these two co-founders would do the next is still to watch.
