Instagram introduced the latest backdrop tool that’ll allow you to replace backgrounds in photos using AI

Backdrop for Instagram is a generative AI tool that Meta unveiled at the Connect event in September of this year. It allows you to replace an image’s background with whatever text description you provide. The corporation had not yet disclosed a precise release date for the function. Alright, it’s here at last. In the US, Meta has begun to roll out Backdrop for Instagram Stories on iOS and Android devices.

The Instagram app has a function called Backdrop that is in the photo editing menu. Click on the icon of a person with a square frame behind them to access it. When you click it, the app will recognize and pick the background through an animation before replacing it with a checkered pattern. The next question will be, “Describe the backdrop you want.” After that, you can type any background you choose. For instance, the software can be instructed to add mountains to the background, and it will comply.

Instagram will display a tag on your story that reads “AI · Backdrop by Instagram” when you upload the picture you altered with the Backdrop tool. This is to inform users that the image isn’t entirely real and was altered using generative AI. Expect the new feature to become quite popular in the coming days as it offers up a universe of possibilities. When it will be accessible in other areas is a question Meta has not answered.
