Instagram is developing a new Reels feed that blends the interests of two users
A new feature is on its way to one of Meta’s social media platforms. A feature that suggests reels to you and a friend based on the videos you’ve shared together, and your personal preferences is something Instagram is working on. Blend is the feature that Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer, discovered. TechCrunch has confirmed from Instagram that Blend is being tested internally; public testing has not yet begun. It’s possible that Blend is never implemented, but it’s always interesting to learn about the concepts Instagram is experimenting with.
The concept of Blend, according to the platform, is that rather than just one person finding a video they enjoy and DMing it to their friend, Instagram users and one of their besties will find new reels together. In order for the two users who have access to the feed to begin discussing a specific reel, it would make sense for Blend to include a notification indicating that the other user has already seen it.
As TechCrunch points out, TikTok lacks a feature similar to this, so Blend might give Instagram an advantage over those who enjoy watching short-form videos with others. Similar to numerous other features introduced by these platforms, Blend appears to be primarily focused on boosting user engagement.
