Intel may incorporate Samsung DRAM into its Lunar Lake processors

Samsung is the world’s largest memory chip manufacturer and is frequently among the first to offer innovative memory technology. It has been rumored that Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM chips would be incorporated into Intel’s next-generation CPUs, which is excellent news for Samsung.

Intel’s Lunar Lake CPUs may include Samsung’s onboard LPDDR5X DRAM

According to a fresh rumor from DigiTimes, Intel’s forthcoming Lunar Lake MX CPUs would have LPDDR5X DRAM chips. This suggests that Intel’s future laptop CPUs will include on-package memory, comparable to Apple’s M series processors, which include onboard memory. Samsung’s 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5X 8533MHz memory might be utilized in Lunar Lake CPUs. This DRAM was initially introduced in the second half of 2022 and is already certified to work with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile platforms.

Using onboard memory enhances speed, decreases the space required by processors within a laptop, and extends battery life. However, it also implies that RAM cannot be increased later, as shown on Apple’s MacBook and Mac models. Given that Intel is expected to ship tens of millions of Lunar Lake chips over the next few years, Samsung will gain tremendously from this alleged transaction. However, it remains uncertain whether Samsung would be Intel’s exclusive provider of LPDDR5X DRAM chips.

Intel has finally released laptop CPUs capable of matching Apple’s performance. The chiplet design has also increased chip efficiency.
