Intel Sells Altera The First Major Group
The sale of the first major group of the US chip manufacturer Intel has now been determined. The battered semiconductor producer is able to rinse several billion dollars into the coffers, which are supposed to help back on track.

As the company announced, the Silver Lake investment company had agreed on the sale of a 51 percent majority at the subsidiary Altera. The transaction amounts to $ 4.46 billion and thus evaluates Altera at around $ 8.75 billion – a significantly lower value than the $ 17 billion that Intel paid for the company in 2015.
With this step, Intel reacts to the continuing financial problems of the group. The aim is to strengthen the balance sheet and reduce costs, explained the new CEO LIP-BU TAN. Intel had already announced last year that Inta was managed as an independent business unit and wanted to sell part of the company. Silver Lake, one of the leading investors in the technology area, has been considered a possible interested party for minority stake in Altera since November 2024.
Altera writes loss
Altera specializes in so -called programmable chips, which can be used flexibly in different fields of application – from telecommunications to military technology. Despite sales of $ 1.54 billion in 2024, Altera had to accept an operational loss of $ 615 million. The takeover by Silver Lake is to be completed in the second half of 2025.
