Intel Unveils Arc B580 and B570 Graphic Processors with Battlemage Architecture

Intel has officially introduced its first two GPUs built on the new Battlemage architecture, the Arc B580 and Arc B570. Departing from traditional numerical naming conventions, Intel is now using letters for its GPU generations. These new graphics cards aim to deliver strong performance at competitive prices, offering a compelling alternative to Nvidia’s mid-range options.

Arc B580 and B570: Key Specifications

Both the Arc B580 and B570 are based on Intel’s BMG-G21 chip, with slight variations in their configurations:

Arc B580

  • Cores: 20 Xe2 cores
  • VRAM: 12 GB on a 192-bit bus (456 GB/s bandwidth)
  • TDP: 180W
  • Price: $250

Arc B570

  • Cores: 18 Xe2 cores
  • VRAM: 10 GB on a 160-bit bus (380 GB/s bandwidth)
  • TDP: 150W
  • Price: $220

Both cards feature a single 8-pin connector and are designed to maximize performance while maintaining efficiency.

Performance Highlights

Intel’s own testing suggests the Arc B580 offers a notable performance advantage:

  • 24% faster than the Arc A750 at 1440p resolution, despite sharing the same $250 launch price.
  • 10% faster than Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060, while providing more VRAM (12 GB vs. 8 GB).

The B570, while slightly scaled-down, still provides competitive performance at an accessible price point.

Battlemage Architecture: A Leap Forward

The Battlemage architecture introduces the BMG-G21 chip, a refined successor to the ACM-G10 chip from the previous generation:

  • Transistor Count: 19.6 billion (down from 21.7 billion in the A750’s ACM-G10).
  • Performance Boost: Xe2 cores deliver a 70% performance increase at maximum capacity.
  • Efficiency: 50% more power-efficient than the previous Alchemist cores.
  • AI Integration: New XMX AI engines accelerate ray tracing for more immersive gaming experiences.

XeSS 2: Enhanced Software Features

Intel has also launched XeSS 2, an upgraded version of its AI-powered super-resolution technology. XeSS 2 introduces:

  • Frame Generation: Similar to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 frame generation, for smoother gameplay.
  • Low Latency: Competing with Nvidia’s Reflex technology for responsive gaming.
