iOS 16: 5 best features of the new iOS

Apple kicked off WWDC 2022 with iOS 16, which will be available for iPhone this fall. As usual, the list of innovations is long, starting with a new lock screen, new security features, and improved health features. This year, Apple is attacking many iPhone operating system construction sites with iOS 16.

Even though the list of proposed changes is long, it doesn’t involve any truly revolutionary innovations. Apple is now launching features that third-party providers have been offering for a while and adding lots of little extras like a customizable lock screen, new tools in Mail, and much more.

We took a look at the top 5 iOS 16 features.

In addition to these five major construction sites, there are a number of other innovations. This includes an update for Focus, the Live Text feature, for Siri, for Health and Fitness+App, and the new data protection tool Safety Check.

The personalized lock screen

The new personalized lock screen has been announced as the first innovation for iOS 16. In the future, users will be able to extend their lock screen with widgets with real-time information and customize them with fonts and photos. That sounds like a big gimmick at first, but it’s gotten a lot of attention from Apple. The lock screen will completely change the way it looks and works.

iCloud Photo Library for family photos

With iOS 16, family photos are shared with the family as soon as they’re taken — if you want them to. This is one of the improvements to the iCloud Photo Library for family photos. When taking a photo, you can decide for yourself whether or not a photo should be shared. All photos to be shared with the family are stored in a new, separate iCloud Media Library, to which you can add up to six users, who can also add and edit photos themselves.

Edit or revoke messages

Apple’s messages get features known from other messengers. This includes editing sent messages, retrieving entire messages, and recovering recently deleted messages. As a new feature, SharePlay starts in messages. For example, users can experience movies or songs and share playback controls while chatting in messages at the same time.

New email tools

With iOS 16, Apple Mail gets the ability to schedule sending. In addition, emails can be retrieved a short time after they are (unintentionally) sent. Mail gets reminders to resubmit emails and an improved search feature.

Password

Much was known about Passkey beforehand. Apple will replace passwords in Safari by instead generating a unique digital key to store on the device. This key is authenticated with, for example, Face ID or Touch ID. Passkey also works in apps and on the web, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

Availability, betas, and more

Some things had already leaked out beforehand, and Apple has now been surprised with other innovations. The first iOS 16 beta will start immediately for registered developers, and there should be a first preview in the public testing program from July. The final release of iOS 16 will take place in the fall, probably in mid-September.
