iOS 16: Operating system with references to new hardware

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC for short, is scheduled for June 6. The next iOS version 16 will also play a major role in this. Now there are reports that the new operating system offers many hints of important new hardware.

Apple’s Biggest New Development in Years: Entering the VR World

For the third consecutive year, WWDC will be held as a pre-recorded digital event, although Apple will allow a select few visitors to the Apple Park campus live this year. Bloomberg now wants to be able to report on what’s happening at this year’s developer conference. iOS 16, which has been in the spotlight at the conference, has been “riddled” with references to Apple’s first all-new hardware product in years: the mixed-reality headset, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

According to Gurman, the company originally planned to unveil the headset at WWDC 2022, but scrapped those plans after development delays — so a year-end presentation is currently expected. Signs of life are now clearly increasing, which further narrows the period of the performance. “I’m told that the beta versions of iOS 16 — codenamed Sydney — are full of references to the headset and its interactions with the iPhone,” Gurman said in his recent report on the largely unknown content of the next major iOS -update.

Period manageable

After years of rumors, iOS brings tangible evidence of Apple’s work behind the scenes for the first time and allows for more accurate classification of the likely time frame. The iOS 16 cycle will start with the June launch and will continue until the release of iOS 17, which is expected in the fall of 2023. During this period, you can expect Apple to at least give a glimpse of its upcoming augmented and virtual reality software — or resourceful code analysts to fish them out of the operating system. “Maybe we could even take a look at the headset’s rOS, which stands for Reality Operating System,” Gurman concludes.
