iOS 26 Nears Completion: Apple Releases Developer Beta 8 and Public Beta 5

Apple has released iOS 26 Beta 8 for developers and the fifth public beta version. The new trial versions for iPhones and iPads only have minimal changes – a sign that the final version is about to be completed.

Eighth beta version with minimal changes

Apple has published the eighth developer version of iOS 26 and the fifth public beta version. The new trial versions appear a week after the seventh DEV beta and are likely to reflect the final version of the iPhone software, which is expected to be released in the course of September. The eighth beta version brings practically no visible differences to the seventh version.

This fact indicates that Apple has largely completed the development of iOS 26. Registered developers can download the new beta in the settings via the software update function. Liquid Glass: Apple presents the new design for iOS, MacOS and Co.

Final version probably reached

Experts assume that iOS 26 Beta 8 already final version Represents that will be delivered to all iPhone users in September. Apple has typically published eight developer betas for iOS versions in recent years, which confirms the current pattern. The fifth public beta corresponds to the eighth developer version and stands above all registered beta testers beta.apple.com (Apple Beta software program) available free of charge. This should also be the last public beta before the final publication.

New design language and functions

iOS 26 introduces Apple’s revised “Liquid Glass” design language, which relies on transparency and glass-like interface elements. The design extends across the lock screen, home screen and the control center to app menus and buttons. The most important innovations include expanded Apple Intelligence functions, improvements in the apps of news and telephone as well as a revised car play. In Ipados 26 there is also a completely new multitasking system that supports several app windows for a MAC-like experience.

Compatibility and outlook

Apple iOS 26 runs on the second generation iPhone SE as well as the iPhone 11 and newer smartphones. For Apple Intelligence, however, at least one iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or a model of the iPhone 16 or the new iPhone 17 series are required. After the expected announcement of new iPhones on September 9, 2025, Apple should first release a release Candidate version for beta testers before iOS 26 officially starts a week later.
