iOS 27 beta: Code reveals Apple’s secret plans for a dual-battery iPhone

Foldable design, two separate batteries and a completely new adhesive technology: Apple is breaking new ground with the upcoming iPhone Ultra. The code of iOS 27 provides corresponding information. A presentation is expected as early as September.

Apple is testing dual battery system

In the fourth developer beta of iOS 27 there are references to a smartphone with multiple batteries. Apple is apparently preparing for a foldable device that is known in the industry as the iPhone Ultra. In such designs, battery cells are usually distributed over both halves of the housing. The new system messages differ from previous versions: they talk about multiple batteries and contain a warning if one of them is not an original component. This suggests that the cells work independently of each other and may be individually replaceable.

As Macworld reported, there were already references in the code to a foldable device, for example for detecting folding angles. According to rumors, the smartphone will offer a total capacity of 4883 milliamperes hours, divided into two batteries with 1921 and 2962 milliamperes hours.

iPhone Ultra hardware details

If the specifications are correct, the battery would be around eleven percent larger than a current Samsung model. A 5.49-inch outer display and a 7.76-inch inner screen as well as a dual camera system with 48 megapixels each are also expected. According to speculation, a telephoto lens is not planned. Apple already used a double battery in the iPhone X, but as a single unit. Splitting between two batteries can improve weight distribution, but increases repair complexity. Internal developments on modular components have been ongoing since the iPhone 12. The batteries could be attached using a method that can be released using electrical voltage. The information provided in the software does not constitute confirmation of a product. Industry observers expect a possible launch in September along with the iPhone 18 series. This has not been officially confirmed. A foldable iPhone with two batteries is getting closer.
