iPhone 12 RAM Upgrade Is Only For Pro Models

It is completely natural that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are behind the Pro models in terms of hardware. Last year, however, Apple made no difference between the models in terms of memory. This year is clearly different.

Need More RAM? Use the Pro models of the iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 family has been officially presented by Apple. In doing so, the group is sticking to an old tradition: one remains guilty of tangible facts about large parts of the installed hardware. However, other sources are now providing a look under the hood of the new iPhone generation and showing differences that Apple has not communicated: While the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, like the models from last year, have 4 GB of RAM and upgrade to 6GB of RAM for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.

While last year the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max were all equipped with 4GB of RAM, Apple is making a difference between the models this year. According to a report by MacRumors, this insight into the equipment is due to an entry from the beta of Apple’s Xcode development environment. The specs of the iPhone 12 family can be found in several so-called plist files, a format with which properties and configuration settings for various programs are managed.

First benchmarks

The new A14 Bionic chip should of course give the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models a significant increase in performance. At the moment, however, it is not yet possible to foresee what advantage the increased RAM will bring. The first benchmarks confirm that the A14 has a single-core performance similar to that achieved with the new iPad Air. We can look forward to the coming weeks and detailed performance analyzes.
