Apple wants to bring a small iPhone model onto the market again this year, even if the production of the iPhone 12 Mini has already been stopped due to the lack of sales success. The usual suspects supposedly take over the production.
As the Taiwanese industry service DigiTimes reports, the two contract manufacturers Pegatron and Foxconn will continue to take over the production of the iPhone 13 mini after they had already shared the tasks for the current model. They are said to have received the order again to build an iPhone with a 5.4-inch display-diagonal.
At the moment it is still unclear how extensive the orders from Apple will be for the production of what is probably the smallest iPhone model in 2021. Previously, Apple had lowered the number of units ordered for the current model several times. The reason lies in a rather disappointing demand according to third-party sources, which is said to have been far below the expectations of the US computer company.
Due to this uncertainty, the contract manufacturers are already preparing to manufacture other products in larger quantities if Apple does not use the theoretically available capacities. The fans of game consoles and the customers of notebooks could benefit if Apple orders smaller quantities of the iPhone 13 mini. Devices of this type are also extremely in demand at the moment and are sometimes affected by delivery bottlenecks because the abilities of the contract manufacturers are being used to full capacity.
Apple launched the iPhone 12 Mini last year in view of the supposedly high demand for a slightly smaller iPhone model. In Europe in particular, some customers prefer a compact device, while in Asia the larger models are particularly preferred. According to earlier reports, Apple currently has no plans to continue to stick to the particularly compact devices after this year’s second mini model in 2022.
