iPhone 14 Series: Apple To Ditch iPhone mini

According to new insider reports, Apple is no longer planning an iPhone mini this year. Instead, there will be four new smartphones in the iPhone 14 family: the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Max, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to a report by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo is known for its good contacts between suppliers and therefore passed on accurate information at a very early stage over the past year. However, it should also be said that his “hit rate” for leaks and rumors is mixed and many of his predictions have not come true – but he is considered an informant who is being listened to.

Now Kuo has released his predictions about the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup. According to Kuo, Apple plans to launch four iPhones in the second half of the year, with significant changes in available sizes. Apple is also planning a lot of new features for this year.

iPhone mini end of story?

Kuo has bad news for iPhone mini fans. Because as it stands, the iPhone mini should be eliminated. Kuo says Apple has no plans to release another small iPhone. A cheaper iPhone Max model with a larger screen now has to take the place of a new mini iPhone. According to Apple’s naming rules, the four new iPhones of 2022 could then be called iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The next iPhone 14 series lineup:

  • iPhone 14 with a 6.1-inch screen.
  • iPhone 14 Max with a 6.7-inch screen.
  • iPhone 14 Pro with a 6.1-inch screen.
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen.

A new, cheaper Max model isn’t the only special feature of the upcoming iPhones. Kuo claims that Apple has no plans to add a newer processor to the standard iPhone 14 models. Instead, the company would equip them with last year’s A15 chip. Only the Pro models would be upgraded to a better A16 CPU. Another change should start with working memory.

All four models should get 6 GB of RAM. According to the information, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max could be equipped with LPDDR4X chips. iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max would get the faster and more efficient LPDDR5 RAM. The iPhone 13 and 13 mini currently use 4 GB of RAM, while the Pro variants offer 6 GB of RAM. But it will be a long time before that happens. The presentation of the iPhone 14 family is traditionally scheduled for September.
