iPhone 15 and iPhone 16: Touch ID is not below the display

In about six months, Apple will release the iPhone 14 or its variants, but the experts are already dealing with the somewhat distant future. This refers to the Apple smartphones with the numbers 15 and 16, or the devices from 2023 and 2024. Speculations about the further future of the iPhones are of course not unusual and can usually be labeled as half-baked rumors. However, there is one exception and that is information provided by Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst who works for TF International Securities is considered well connected when it comes to Apple, his predictions are therefore more than simple speculation in the dark and are taken seriously by all industry experts.

Touch ID in the display is still delayed

Now Kuo via Twitter and writes there that he previously predicted that iPhones would not support the fingerprint sensor or Touch ID below the display until 2023 at the earliest.

But he must correct that now: According to his latest surveys, “new iPhones in 2023 and 2024 may not support Touch ID below the screen.” But that’s not a big problem, since “Face ID with a mask on the iPhone is already an excellent biometric solution”. A Touch ID solution installed “into” or below the display has been predicted for years for iPhones.

Android manufacturers have been using similar solutions for a long time and Apple is also repeatedly associated with them. However, the Californian company is absolutely right to wait a little longer, because the fingerprint recognition “in” the display does not always work optimally, on the contrary – and Apple is known for waiting rather than installing a poorly functioning technology.
