iPhone 15 USB C Port Leak Unveils Alleged Components

Apple is rumored to start switching iPhones from Lightning to USB-C ports this year. Now these rumors are backed up – by several pictures that are supposed to show the alleged iPhone 15 component with the connection.

iPhone parts of unconfirmed origin

The pictures do not show the iPhone 15 itself, but only the USB-C connection, which is supposed to be a component of the upcoming iPhone generation.

The photos show the USB-C connectors attached to the flexible PCB component parts. The abbreviations on the images stand for the standard iPhone 15 (“15”), iPhone 15 Plus (“15pls”), and iPhone 15 Pro Max (“15pm”) on which they will be used.

The detail shots were shared by the leakers @lipilipsi and @John011235 on the short message service X. Their authenticity cannot be confirmed at the moment, but the pictures are now feeding the rumor mill with new “evidence” for the upcoming USB-C launch on iPhones. So far, Apple has still used the self-developed, i.e. proprietary Lightning connector on the iPhone and only switched to USB-C on the iPad.

It is expected that all new iPhone models this year will be equipped with USB-C. Reliable sources, including Bloomberg and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, predicted Apple will make this change early on. However, this change is not entirely voluntary. The move will allow Apple to comply with the European Union’s new charging capability regulations.

Differences in data transfer

So far, the rumor mill is assuming that only the iPhone 15 Pro models will support fast data transfers (i.e. higher speeds), while the standard iPhone 15 models will still offer USB 2.0 speeds – i.e. the same as Lightning.
