Careem was co-founded by a Pakistani Mudassir Sheikh and Magnus Olsson, began operations in United Arab Emirates in 2012. In an interview with Junaid Iqbal CEO of Careem Pakistan, CEO said, “Careem is aiming at creating 1 million new jobs in Pakistan”
He further added, Pakistan as an industry point of view is severely underserviced specially in public transport sector, this creates immense opportunities for Careem to jump into the market and serve it in a better way.
In differentiating Careem with other ride hailing services like Uber, Junaid Iqbal said, “We offer multiple ways of booking a car, through phone call, via Website and with App. We also offer 3 different options Now, Later and Repeat whereas most of our competitors only offer Now option. Moreover, we have different segments of cars Go, Go plus and Business which cater different income level people, and our competitors have only one option. We also have mobile wallet that our customers can top up with cash.
While talking on short-term objectives in Pakistan Iqbal said, “ By 2020 our aim is to create 1 million new job opportunities in Pakistan, the company is intended to attract $10 billion of investment in public transport infrastructure, and maintain presence in all urban and suburban cities of Pakistan.
