KFC China Offer Customers To Pay By Smiling

KFC China has launched a new offer for its customers, to pay by smiling. Alipay has introduced this and currently, this facial payment system is available in KFC branch in Hangzhou, China. Ant Financial is an Alibaba subsidiary which is behind this latest technology. Smile to Pay Technology uses 3D camera to perform facial scanning and a “liveness detection algorithm” is used to confirm the identity of the individual. Also, customers are asked to enter their phone number to aid in any fraud case.

A test version of this system was first introduced by Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba in the year 2015.

Jidong Chen head of biometric identification technology at Ant Financial said “Taking the facial-recognition payment technology offline was no easy task. On how we detect when someone’s photo is being manipulated when someone is falsely impersonating another person — we prevent this by merging software and hardware by linking sophisticated algorithms with the 3D camera. We can prevent biometric spoofing.”

As per Ant Financial features like shadows are used to confirm that person in front of the camera is the real person and not the picture or any fake.

Also during the testing of this feature, a woman was asked to come in different looks, with less makeup, heavy makeup, and wigs. The machine successfully recognized her facial features all the times at the time of the payment.
