The US reality icon Kim Kardashian has in one interview spoke to Vanity Fair magazine about her idiosyncratic relationship with the AI chatbot ChatGPT. She accuses it of literally sabotaging her during her law studies.
Kardashian explained that she mainly uses the chatbot when she is unsure while studying. Then upload photos of cases or questions to get quick explanations. But instead of getting help, she often feels sabotaged. According to her own statement, ChatGPT “constantly gives her wrong answers”, with noticeable consequences: The 44-year-old admitted that she had already solved exam questions incorrectly because of this. She then gets upset about it and accuses the software of “failing” her.
Kardashian described in the interview how the chatbot “talks back” and gives her advice to trust herself more. For her, it felt like a kind of absurd friend-enemy relationship, which is why she jokingly called the AI her “frenemy.” A friend who was present at the interview commented that the relationship was reminiscent of toxic friendships in which people cannot break away from each other despite constant conflict.
Kardashian has been completing a legal training program in California for several years, which replaces a traditional university education. In 2021 she passed the so-called “Baby Bar”, a first major hurdle on the way to becoming a fully qualified lawyer. She reportedly took the actual bar exam this summer and is currently awaiting the results. She also deals with the topic of law professionally: In the upcoming series production “All’s Fair,” Kardashian plays a lawyer in an all-female law firm in Los Angeles that specializes in high-profile divorce cases. Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts and Sarah Paulson will appear alongside her. The filming and her real studies overlap, which probably increases her desire to use digital helpers.
