A recent leak reveals the technical specifications of the upcoming Pixel Watch 5 from Google. While the design remains unchanged, the data shows that there is probably very little going on inside the smartwatch.
Samsung has just introduced its new smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which come with a number of upgrades. In August, Google is also expected to present its new watch at a hardware event in the form of the Pixel Watch 5, which has already been seen in marketing images and in one of the most unusual leaks ever.
Now a discovered entry in the Google Play Console also reveals the technology under the hood. However, compared to Samsung’s wearables, the adjustments are sparse. The Qualcomm SW5100 is once again used as the main processor. The chip has been at the heart of the watch series since the second generation. The computing unit still consists of four ARM Cortex A53 cores with a clock frequency of 1.7 gigahertz. An Adreno 702 GPU continues to provide the graphical display. A noticeable jump in performance or a significantly longer battery life are unlikely by sticking to the older architecture.
There is at least a positive development in RAM. As 9to5Google reported that the RAM will increase from two to three gigabytes. This makes the model one of the few devices with WearOS that has more than two gigabytes of RAM. The larger storage space is likely to be primarily necessary for running the local Gemini AI functions.
It is not clear from the database entry whether Google has updated the separate co-processor. In the previous generation, the manufacturer switched to a Cortex-M55 to enable functions such as satellite-based emergency calls. A further upgrade at this point could at least slightly improve the efficiency of background tasks, but currently remains unconfirmed.
The rest of the technical features of the Google Watch remain unchanged. The pixel density of the screen remains at 320 PPI. Certification authorities also confirm support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, NFC and ultra-wideband for precise localization at close range. Optionally there will again be variants with an integrated LTE modem for the mobile Internet connection.
Despite the small technical leaps, buyers must expect rising costs. According to unconfirmed information, the 41 millimeter model without mobile communications starts at 419 euros. The larger 45 millimeter version will cost 449 euros. There is supposedly an additional charge of 100 euros for LTE support.
