Lenovo is bringing a better Surface Pro again

The Surface Pro has strong competition from the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Detachable, even if it’s not exactly cheap with a price of almost 2000 euros. The new 2-in-1 tablet from Lenovo should score points above all with more performance and the durability typical of ThinkPad.

Surface alternative with a ‘real’ keyboard

Basically, there is already a predecessor for the ThinkPad X13 Detachable, but the differences to the X12 Detachable are clear. The new model has a noticeably larger display with a 13-inch diagonal and 2880×1920 pixels in a 3:2 format, which means that the display edges shrink, at least on the sides. However, there are still relatively wide stripes at the top and bottom, in which there is at least room for the front camera and the IR sensors for Windows Hello at the top edge. Overall, the device with its powerful hardware based on the Intel “Panther Lake” series – i.e. the new Intel Core Ultra 3 chips – is housed in a housing that is less than 10 millimeters thin and yet appears very stable, which adapts the “square” shape of the ThinkPad series. The RAM can now be up to 64 gigabytes, while there are hardly any limits to the SSD.

Great hardware, if it weren’t for the high price

On the back there is a reasonably high-resolution camera as well as the freely adjustable folding stand, which Lenovo designed in such a way that it can practically be folded completely backwards. A welcome innovation is the removable keyboard cover, which gives the “Detachable” its name.

Instead of insisting on a thin design and low weight, Lenovo is now concentrating on adapting the best of its ThinkPads for the ultra-mobile 2-in-1 tablet – the keyboard. The keyboard is significantly thicker than before and therefore offers the same typing experience as a real notebook in terms of typing quality and feel. The key travel increases to 1.5 millimeters, which is why the keyboard feels as if it were installed in a “real” notebook.

Optionally, the keyboard can also be attached at a slight angle to the bottom edge of the tablet thanks to the magnets on the left and right of the pen tray for the high-resolution stylus, as always. This increases comfort enormously. There are also four USB-C ports on the housing, which, like the battery, can supposedly be easily replaced by the IT department of most companies. It will still be some time before Lenovo actually launches its new detachable notebook – some people would simply call it a tablet with a keyboard – onto the market. The device will only be available from the 3rd quarter.
