Lenovo laptop with a rollable display at CES 2025

Lenovo introduced the Thinkbook Plus G6 at CES 2025, which is the first commercially available notebook with a rollable display. The device can enlarge its screen by around 50 percent from a base diagonal of around 14 inches by extending the frame.

The real innovations in notebooks still exist. Lenovo presented an example of this last year when it showed a notebook with a motorized, extendable screen. Now the Chinese manufacturer is actually bringing the device onto the market, with prices starting at around $3,500 at CES 2025. So if you want a notebook whose display can be extended from around 14 to 16.7 inches diagonally at the push of a button or hand gesture, you’ll have to dig deep into your pocket. Compared to the earlier prototypes, Lenovo has invested primarily in making the device more durable with the Thinkbook Plus Gen 6. According to the employees on site, the device can be extended and retracted up to 120,000 times. Due to the motorized mechanism in the display frame, it is of course a little wider than usual.

According to Lenovo, the opening angle of the extendable display has been limited to 120 degrees, which prevents the notebook from tipping over backwards. In order to recognize the user’s hand in front of the display in order to trigger the extension process, a front camera is combined with infrared sensors. The panel itself offers up to 400 candela brightness and 120 Hertz maximum refresh rate as well as 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

With the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, Lenovo wants to appeal primarily to professional users who work on the move, giving them more space for their work on the desktop. If desired, the panel can also be divided into two separate Windows desktops when it is extended. The Lenovo notebook with an extendable display weighs only 1.7 kilograms and uses Intel’s current “Lunar Lake” processors, which offers support for Wi-Fi 7 and USB 4.0, among other things.
