MediaTek is attempting to steal Samsung from Qualcomm by offering attractive pricing
As the world’s leading Android smartphone maker, Samsung supplies a staggering number of phones each year. If you could get one of your items inside their gadgets, that would be a huge triumph for your company.
So, it’s not unexpected that MediaTek is offering Samsung a special discount on its chipsets. Samsung sources chipsets for its numerous products from both within the conglomerate and third-party vendors such as Qualcomm and MediaTek.
MediaTek is apparently offering special pricing to Samsung
According to X, MediaTek is offering preferential pricing only to Samsung to encourage the business to employ more of its CPUs in Galaxy handsets. If the claim is accurate and Samsung accepts the offer, we may see more MediaTek chipsets, but only in non-flagship handsets.
Samsung has exclusive agreements with Qualcomm, and in exchange, the San Diego-based business delivers slightly overclocked versions of its flagship chipsets for Samsung’s flagship devices. That is why the new Galaxy S24 series is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, rather than the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that everyone else receives.
Samsung also prefers to use its own Exynos chipsets in high-end handsets, which is why the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are equipped with the latest Exynos 2400 in most markets. While MediaTek produces high-end chipsets and hopes to compete with Qualcomm with the Dimensity 9400 this year, Samsung is unlikely to move to Dimensity chipsets for its flagship phones, regardless of the special pricing offered.
Perhaps some of the Qualcomm CPUs in mid-range Galaxy phones will be replaced with MediaTek equivalents, but this is likely to be the end of any deeper collaboration between MediaTek and Samsung for the time being.
